William H. Kaufman, “Bill,” was born in 1943 and is a lifelong resident of Lebanon, OH. A graduate of Lebanon High School in 1961 and Miami University in 1965, he served in the United States Navy, and then enrolled in the Salmon P. Chase Law School in Cincinnati, OH (now part of Northern Kentucky University). While in law school, he was employed in the claims department of Travelers Insurance Company. He and his wife, Mary, another lifelong Lebanon resident, married in 1967.
Upon graduation from Chase, he began his legal career in 1971 with Marvin E. Young and Fred E. Jones in the then law firm of Young & Jones. He became a partner in 1976. The focus of his practice for approximately thirty years has been litigation, primarily dealing with personal injury and defense insurance practice. He has been honored as a Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and American College of Trial Lawyers, and he enjoys the highest peer-review rating.
In the mid 1990’s, he began to disengage from the insurance practice. He continues trial practice, primarily focusing on personal injury litigation, and he also focuses on estate planning, probate law, banking, and small businesses.
He has served in several public and private officesas follows: prosecutor/solicitor for the City of Lebanon in the mid 1970’s; City Council for the City of Lebanon; Mayor, City of Lebanon, and Judge, Lebanon Municipal Court from 1986 to 1995. He has served as a director on the Board of Lebanon Citizens National Bank since 1982.
Throughout his career, he has served on various bar associations, including the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Cincinnati Bar Association, and the Warren County Bar Association (past president), as well as his fellowship in the American Board of Trial Advocates and American College of Trial Lawyers.
He has served as past President of the Warren County Historical Society and as director of the American Cancer Society, and he continues to serve in a volunteer capacity for the Countryside YMCA. He is a member of BPOE Lodge 422, FOE Lodge 1395, American Legion Post 615, VFW, and Kiwanis. His hobbies include travel and fishing, as well as collecting and restoring vintage automobiles and motorcycles.
