While attending the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, he interned at the law firm of Young and Jones in Lebanon, Ohio. He graduated from law school in 1980 and was admitted to the Ohio Bar Association that same year. He was also admitted to practice in the Federal Courts of Southwest Ohio.
From 1980 to 1983, he served as an associate in the firm of Jones, Kaufman, and Jones. In 1983, he became a partner in the firm of Kaufman, Florence, and Rittgers, and since 1988, he has been a partner at Kaufman and Florence. Throughout his career, he has gained a wide range of experience in civil litigation and criminal defense, from small claims to complex litigation on the civil end, and from misdemeanors through capital murder on the criminal end.
Curently, his practice focuses on real estate in all of its phases including, but not limited to, real estate transactions, representation of lenders, and zoning and annexation matters. He continues to represent clients in selected civil and criminal matters.
He is a Licensed Title Insurance Agent for the Old Republic National Title Insurance Company and the First American Title Insurance Company. He is co-owner of the Lebanon Land Title Agency.
He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association (Real Estate Section), the Warren County Bar Association, and the Ohio Land Title Association. He is involved in the Miami University Alumni Association, serves on the Board of Directors of the Red and White Club of Miami University, and he is a member of the Prodesse Society of Miami University as well as the Salmon P. Chase Alumni Association.
His hobbies include golf, travel, and reading. He enjoys spending time with his two daughters.
